The 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence campaign is aimed to raise awareness and inspire people to take a stance against domestic abuse and shed light on the different forms of abuse as it’s not always physical.
The campaign will begin on 25th November 2023, which is the White Ribbon Day/ International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and finishes 16 days later on December 10th, 2023, which is International Human Rights Day. Both days are dedicated specifically to focus on action to help end domestic violence.
The purpose of this campaign is to highlight the courageous stories shared by survivors as they embark on their path to positive change as well as inspire others to act against abuse. The bravery of these women who will be telling their stories and sharing their experiences with abuse and violence will hopefully offer support and solidarity to others and give hope to all those who are affected by domestic abuse.
Why it is important to us
Here at Vale Domestic Abuse Services, we want to ensure that any form of violence against women, children and girls will not be excused, and we aim to give hope to those affected by domestic abuse and show that their lives can be different. Domestic abuse is a serious issue which affects many people across South Wales, so this is why we are committed to join the 16 days of Action Against Domestic Abuse campaign and our staff have planned lots of activities to help raise awareness and show support.
Our activities for the campaign
Over the course of the 16 days, our staff here at Vale Domestic Abuse Services will be wearing orange to promote the campaign and invite any service users attending any events or groups to wear orange if they would like to get involved. We will also be creating a ‘Tree of Change’ art project on 27th November at our offices in Barry for anyone who wishes to learn more about the 16 days of activism and visitors will have the chance to complete a ‘Respect is’ leaf to add to the tree which will be on display at the office. Staff will also be participating in 16 minutes of reflective silence to think about what the 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence campaign means to them. We will also be holding two bake sales at our coffee mornings where staff will be baking cakes, using 16 ingredients to make them.
